Hasty-ass picture post: Green Lantern Classics wave 2

 

As you can see, I'm no great photographer. I thought it would be nice for everyone to get a look at these though, as the first reports of them appearing just showed up yesterday.

In short:

-Stel: Probably my favorite BAF they've done

-Sodam Yat: Pretty good for mostly reuse

-Carol Ferris: New buck is great but arms are still very thing. Pay close attention to her eyes when buying

-Lantern 3-pack: Below average value but B'dg is the last note anyone need play on the character

-Change-o Green Lanterns: Naut Kel Loi's fishbowl makes his head a pain to switch but he looks great. Medphyll looks good but less exciting visually.

-Change-o Red Lanterns: Nite-lik looks awesome though his head has difficulty holding poses and there's no symbol underneath his chest piece, forcing you to buy both carded variations (or two carded Skallox's I guess)

-G'hu: $15 for Stel's arm was a little steep.

Fun at Baltimore

So now that you've heard about our epic con adventures this year, I'm going to share some pictures from Baltimore. I wish I'd taken my camera with us outside of the con, as downtown was pretty amazing.

Gateway to paradise!

When I saw this I just had to laugh. I'm sure there were angry people, but why? The sign's so sincere I can't think of it as anything but endearing.

The con was sponsored by Ford this year and they were letting people test drive the Ford Fiesta. It's a pretty sweet ride and we even got a goody bag with Spider-Man #1 (1990) in it!

I love these flags. The convention hall is so snazzy; it's all glass, escalators, fountains and awesome sofas.

This was our little alleyway at the con. Not seen: the comic guy with a raffle box that had Brad Pitt from Se7en screaming on it.

Nothing special here; just an idea of the scale of the con.

It's Frank Cho's booth! He wasn't here at the time but I did get a shot of the cool painting he was working on during the con. Like an idiot, I didn't notice that the Bunny has the Right Hand of Doom until Rich Johnston pointed it out later.

It's the BOOM! booth! I love this picture because the Irredeemable poster makes it look like there's someone sitting at the table. Try getting a signature from that guy! As a bonus Mr. Incredible looks like he's about to knock that poor booth worker on the head, while Jack-jack laughs at Elasti-girl's feeble attempts to warn him in time.

I remember this guy! He sold me the 1st (only?) Casanova hardcover for $5 last year and I came back hoping to find the Kick-Ass HC for cheap since I totally know they overprinted it.

One half of the Image booth where luminaries like Erik Larsen,  Bryan Glass, Ryan Ottley, the Luna Bros. and the artist guy from that Godland comic I hear so much about were signing throughout the con.

It's Buzzboy! This guy's super nice every year but I'm not going to lie: this picture was me brazenly trying to get a shot of that cute asian girl on the far right.

Hey check it out! It's Master Chief fighting Boba Fett! This was the booth next to us and this particular piece of Vs. genius taunted us at every turn as it may be the single most powerful child lure since the invention of the Candy bar.

The $5 TPB's place had the "Stan Lee Meets..." hardback for $6; always wanted to read those one shots though I've never really heard anyone talk about them that much. Then again there's never a lot of talk about the mini-events Marvel does sometimes. They also had the standard 400 copies of 'The Eternals" HC for $5. Those T-shirt guys are great, we see them at every con; they had an awesome shirt with all the Robot Masters from Mega Man one time that, like an idiot, I never bought. Haven't seen it since.

I think these guys were my favorite costumed group at the Con. Poor Beachhead must have been sweating like MGM's investor's looking at their quarterly statement. *ZING*

This thing photographs amazingly well. Kudos to it's makers!

I love the guy in this picture; it's like he's dancing a merry jig on his way out after finding some awesome loot. We'll see you next year Baltimore, so stay classy!

Finally some Marvel Sketches!

This Hercules was drawn inside of my 'Smash of the Titans' hardcover by Fred Van Lente. He was an incredibly cool guy and I feel extra guilty for still not having gotten around to reading any of 'Action Philosophers' or the 'Comic History of Comics'. This is also only the first part of something; Fred didn't specify what but he told to come by to see him and Greg Pak at the Marvel booth later on. Unfortunately I didn't make it due to the eternity that was the line for Alex Ross. Jas posits that it might be Greg drawing Amadeus Cho but until I see him we can't be sure. Here's hoping the two of them come to Baltimore!



Paul Pelletier drew this Nova for me at the Marvel booth, after doing a Hulk for the guy in front of me. I wish I'd had the 'War of Kings' hardcover for him to sign. *Sigh*; maybe someday.



Hawkeye by Jim Cheung. I was a little surprised when he asked me which Hawkeye I wanted as I'd kind of forgotten about Kate from 'Young Avengers'. Jim did say as far as he knows, she's going to be keeping her name so I guess her and Clint will both be going by it in the near future. Jim McCann next to him but he left before I could ask him to sign it. They're both very very cool guys though. Jim once gave me directions to Dan Slott's table at Wizardworld!



This is my awesome Baron Zemo bust I got for $18; sorry I just felt like showing off. This is my second Marvel bust (after Hercules) and I've been planning to get him for years. Yes, that is Jas' copy of Gurren Lagann that I borrowed next to him.

Cliff Chiang did this gorgeous Traci Thirteen for me; someday I hope to get a Doc Thirteen to go with her.



Jeff Smith busted out this Fone Bone and Ted the bug for me after I wore the poor guy out with my stack of hardcovers to sign. He apparently hadn't seen the original individual hardcover Bone volumes in a while so it was nice to surprise him.



Hawkman by Franco and Hawkgirl by Art Baltazar. They're the team from 'Tiny Titans' that also write 'Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam' (with art by Mike Norton); they've been to every con we've gone to for a while and we always are sure to stop by.

Supergirl by Jamal Igle, a favorite of ours to see. He was sitting next to Paul Levitz who is an extremely nice guy as a sidenote and a lot less intimidating then I thought he would be.

Jim Calafiore made this Ragdoll for Jen while Gail Simone was signing next to him.

Patrick Gleason sketched this hilarious Mogo for Jas. I love his little hat.

C2E2 Gallery

Well we have a new episode coming later today but I thought I would give some teasers as to what happened to us at C2E2 in the form of the sketches we got. One of them isn't with me, one's a surprise for later and one I can't show... yet.

Jonah Hex by Jimmy Palmiotti. That's Garth Ennis' signature up top but... it's a long story we'll talk about later.

Captain Marvel also by Phil, who was very relieved halfway through to learn that I did mean Billy Batson and not Mar-vell.

Mike Norton did this great Black Adam for me. Robert asked why he was smiling while saying 'grrr'. I think it's because he's having to pose for a family picture with Isis and Osiris.
